Although Sony let the trademark for the forever-in-development The Last Guardian expire, they said that the game was still being worked on by Team ICO, and will still be a PS3 release, despite rumors that it would be set for the PS4. In an interview with Eurogamer, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida said that the game was playable, but a lot of it had to be redone.
“The team is still working on it very hard. There are certain technical issues they’ve been working on. That’s the period of time when the game, looking from the outside, doesn’t seem to be making much progress. But internally there is a lot of work going into creating the title.”
When asked more about a PS4 release, Yoshida stuck to his word that the game will be a PS3 title, saying “The game is developed on PS3.” When asked about the long hold up on the game, he went on:
“We had the game playable. At one point we felt that it would be produced for a certain time period. That was the time we prematurely talked about the launch window. But it turned out the technical issues are much harder to solve. So the engineering team had to go back and re-do some of the work they had done.”
And although the game’s designer Fumito Ueda left Sony, he’s still reported to be working on the game as a freelancer.
So will we finally get to see The Last Guardian in late 2012 or sometime in 2013?
