Vita firmware 1.80 update adds PsOne Classics support and buttons to the home screen

At gamescom today Sony announced that PSOne Classics support would be coming to the PS Vita on August 28 in the form of the 1.80 firmware update. Aside from PSOne Classics support comes new features such as the ability to use the Vita’s buttons on the menu. The Video app has also been updated, adding fast rewind, fast-forward, and variable speed playback for video and allowing PS3 and iTunes playlists to be imported for music.

The web browser will now support rear touch for scroll and zoom, making (smart) use of the backside of the Vita. And for the new “Cross-Buy” feature comes a new “Cross-Controller” icon in the Remote Play app to allow games with Cross-Controller support to be played, including Street Fighter X Tekken, PlayStation All-Star, the new Sly Cooper game and the new Ratchet and Clank game. Cross-Save will also be introduced, allowing PS3 saves to be accessed on the Vita and vice versa. Catch the full rundown on the update at the official PlayStation Blog.
